Pokeno is an seven teacher school of approximately 160
pupils. We are located at 54 Pokeno Road, 2 minutes from the main
street of Pokeno.
We are a well resourced school
with seven classrooms, a library, administration building, resource room,
swimming pool, large playground and field, and a large multi purpose shade
structure with kitchen facilities. Pokeno playcentre is also located on the
school grounds.
The majority of our children live
within the Pokeno or Tuakau townships, with a number of children living on the
outskirts on life-style blocks. The community has been growing steadily since
2000 which has seen the roll grow from 64 to approximately 160 over the last
ten years. Plans for development within the Pokeno area have been established
which will see the school continue to grow over the next ten to fifteen years.
Pokeno School has an enthusiastic
and supportive Board of Trustees. The high quality staff are hard working and
ensure that the needs of the children are paramount to everything we do. There
is a hard working and very successful PTA, and a whanau group has been formed
to help address the needs of the maori community. The Board of Trustees produces
a monthly community publication called the ‘Pokeno Focus’ which has a
circulation of approximately 700.
The community is extremely
supportive and fully involved in the School’s activities.
